How to Choose the Right Hair Bun Shade for Indian Hair
Share
The right shade is what makes a hair bun look like your hair. Most Indian hair isn't pure black, so picking the darkest option isn't always the best choice. Here's how to find your match.
Our 4 shades
- Jet Black – the deepest black with a cool shine. Best if your hair is truly jet black and looks almost blue-black in sunlight.
- Natural Black – a soft black with a hint of brown. This suits most Indian hair and is the safest choice if you're unsure.
- Dark Brown – a rich chocolate brown. For naturally dark brown hair or hair with a light colour or henna tint.
- Light Brown – a warm caramel brown. For highlighted, balayage or noticeably brown hair.
3 quick ways to check your shade
- Look in daylight. Stand near a window and look at the lengths of your hair, not the roots. Indoor lights make hair look darker than it is.
- Hold a black object next to your hair. If your hair looks lighter or warmer than the black item, you're Natural Black or Dark Brown, not Jet Black.
- Think about colour or henna. If you've coloured, highlighted or used henna in the last few months, match to how your hair looks now, usually one of the browns.
Still between two shades?
Choose the darker one. A slightly darker bun looks natural because buns sit where hair naturally looks deeper. A lighter bun stands out more.
